The sausage celebration in the heart of the Leporano Summer
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Sausage Festival is one of the most delicious and well-attended evenings of the Leporano Summer, the rich calendar of events that accompanies the summer season each year in the municipality of Leporano, a small village overlooking the Ionian Sea in the province of Taranto, in the heart of Puglia. For several editions, the festival has attracted residents and tourists vacationing along the Taranto coast, transforming a street in the town center into a long, open-air communal table.
The absolute star is naturally the sausage, prepared by master butchers according to recipes handed down through time. The meat mixture is seasoned with pepper, aromatic herbs, and that touch of "secret" ingredients that every shop jealously guards, then grilled over embers and served piping hot. It is accompanied by local bread, a good glass of wine, and other specialties of popular Puglian cuisine.
The Sausage Festival is not just an appointment for foodies: it is a true village festival. After sunset, the tasting is accompanied by live music, entertainment, group dances, and the unmissable pizzica, the traditional dance of Salento and the Ionian Puglia that involves both young and old in festive circles until late at night.
The event, promoted by local butchers together with local associations, has always maintained a spirit of community and solidarity: entry is free, and the proceeds are often donated to charity. It is this blend of good food, tradition, and generosity that makes the festival a deeply felt event for the Leporano community.
The Sausage Festival is part of the Leporano Summer program, the festival that brings concerts, theatrical performances, historical re-enactments like "Experience the Middle Ages," markets, and numerous other gastronomic festivals (from the Mortadella Festival to the Orecchiette Festival) to Leporano between July and September. An opportunity to discover the village, its Muscettola Castle, and the splendid beaches of Leporano, among the most appreciated seaside destinations in the province of Taranto.
The dates for the 2026 edition of the Sausage Festival in Leporano have not yet been officially announced. The event, included every year in the Leporano Summer program, is usually held at the end of July in the center of the village near Taranto.
As in previous editions, an evening dedicated to tasting sausages prepared by local butchers is expected, accompanied by live music, group dancing, and pizzica. Check back on this page to find out the date and program as soon as they are released by the organizers.
The Sausage Festival takes place in the historic center of Leporano (Taranto), in Puglia, traditionally along one of the town's streets (in past editions, Via Margherita and Piazza Maria Immacolata).
The event usually falls towards the end of July, in the evening, as part of the Leporano Summer calendar.
Free entry. Tastings are paid for on-site with dedicated tickets; proceeds are often allocated to charitable initiatives.
