Three days dedicated to nature, sustainability, and creative reuse in the heart of the Sienese Val di Chiana.
Sarteano Green is an environmental event held every year in late May in the historic center of Sarteano, a charming village in the Sienese Val di Chiana, in the province of Siena, in the heart of Tuscany. Established in 2024, the event is promoted by the Municipality of Sarteano together with the Pro Loco and numerous local associations, with the aim of spreading a culture of sustainability, enhancing the beauty of the landscape, and strengthening the sense of collective responsibility toward common goods.
For three days, the center of Sarteano transforms into an open-air laboratory: meetings, exhibitions, workshops, educational initiatives, and musical performances take place across the village's squares and halls. The common thread is environmental respect and active citizenship, with a concrete focus on the circular economy and daily best practices.
The hub of the festival is Piazza XXIV Giugno, which hosts the characteristic Green Market: a market dedicated to plants, flowers, spices, honey, natural products, and handicrafts, where you can find inspiration for a more sustainable lifestyle. There is no shortage of workshops for children, ecological walks, and activities involving schools, families, and citizens.
Each edition features a specific theme: the 2026 edition, the third, is dedicated to material regeneration and creative reuse, showing how sustainability and creativity can become concrete tools for participation and care for the common good. Initiatives include painting workshops with natural elements, flower weaving, talks on waste sorting, and the inauguration of the educational forest "Il Bosco dei Segreti" at the local primary school.
Sarteano Green is organized by the Municipality of Sarteano in collaboration with Pro Loco Sarteano, the Parents' Committee, the Youth City Council, the 6 Zampe in Val d'Orcia association, Sarteano Viva, and Intrepido Cultura e Servizi, with the support of local entities. The event is part of the Municipality's broader green vocation, which has for years promoted sustainable tourism and the enhancement of the southern Tuscan territory, between the Crete Senesi, the Val d'Orcia, and Monte Cetona.
Admission to all initiatives is free, making Sarteano Green an event open to everyone: residents, families, and visitors who want to discover an authentic village and its values linked to nature.
