Every summer, in the heart of the Brindisi-Salento area, Torre Santa Susanna comes to a standstill to celebrate its patron saint with the Santa Susanna Patronal Feast. It is the most important time of the year for this town in the Province of Brindisi, Puglia: the streets of the historic center are adorned with lights, brass bands provide a soundtrack from dawn until late at night, and the entire community participates in a celebration that unites faith, tradition, and entertainment.
The town bears the name of its protector, Saint Susanna Virgin and Martyr, the main patron of Torre Santa Susanna. Her liturgical feast day falls on August 11th, the day the community honors the saint with the most solemn celebrations. Devotion to Saint Susanna is deeply rooted in the religious history of Salento and continues to define the identity of the village, which has always identified with its patron saint.
The festival thrives on the typical Salento blend of religious observance and secular celebration. The spiritual heart is the solemn procession with the statue of the saint, which winds through the town streets accompanied by hymns, prayers, and the sound of brass bands, preceded by Holy Masses celebrated in the Mother Church and other churches in the center.
Alongside the religious celebrations, the secular program enlivens the squares over several evenings with:
As with many Puglian patronal feasts, two elements make the Torre Santa Susanna festival unforgettable: the illuminations, which transform the town into a path of light, and the fireworks display that concludes the festivities, lighting up the Salento sky. These are the moments that attract visitors even from neighboring towns in the Province of Brindisi.
The Santa Susanna Patronal Feast is also an opportunity to experience Salento hospitality: the evenings are scented with local specialties like frise, pasticciotti, taralli, and capocollo, while local folk music accompanies the convivial atmosphere. For those visiting this part of Puglia in summer, it is the ideal occasion to discover the authentic soul of a small village that tells its story through its most iconic festival.
The festival is traditionally held around August 11th, the saint's liturgical feast day. The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced: for the detailed program, it is best to follow the official channels of the Patronal Feast Committee and the Municipality of Torre Santa Susanna.
