The ancient spring fair of Turi, featuring market stalls, local products, and folk traditions
The Santa Lucia Fair is one of the most deeply rooted traditional events in the calendar of Turi, a town in the province of Bari in the heart of the Puglia region. Every year, on April 24th, the streets and squares of the town center are filled with stalls and vendor stands, transforming the town into a large open-air market that effectively marks the beginning of the Turi fair season.
Also known as a centuries-old fair, the Santa Lucia Fair has its roots in the long tradition of Apulian merchant fairs, when these gatherings were a fundamental moment for trade between the communities of the Murgia and the Itria Valley. Even today, it retains this authentic and popular character: it is not an event built for mass tourism, but a fair deeply felt and attended by the inhabitants of Turi and neighboring towns, who gather there for a day of shopping, strolling, and socializing.
The fair brings together street vendors with a wide variety of goods. Among the stalls, you can find:
Admission is free, and the format is that of a classic town fair, with stalls set up along the city streets from morning until afternoon.
The Santa Lucia Fair opens the season of fairs organized by the Municipality of Turi through the allocation of pitches to vendors. Throughout the year, the calendar continues with the Madonna del Carmine markets in July and culminates in August with the Sant'Oronzo Fair and its related markets, tied to the city's patron saint feast.
Located southeast of Bari, Turi is a center known primarily for its Ferrovia Cherry and its wineries, but also for a heritage of folk traditions, religious festivals, and fairs that mark the year. The Santa Lucia Fair represents one of these identity cornerstones: a simple and genuine opportunity to experience the atmosphere of an Apulian community and rediscover the social value of ancient spring fairs.
The 2026 Santa Lucia Fair was held in Turi on April 24, 2026. The Municipality of Turi regulated the participation of vendors through a public notice, with the assignment of pitches along the city streets. The fair maintained its traditional character as a large spring market, with stalls of local products, handicrafts, clothing, and sweets. The event opened the season of Turi fairs, which in 2026 continues with the Madonna del Carmine markets (July 15-16) and the Sant'Oronzo Fair (August 24).
