About Patron Saint Festival

The Sant'Omero Patron Saint Festival is the most cherished celebration in this small village in the province of Teramo, Abruzzo. Every June 3rd, the town honors its patron saint with a procession, a marching band, a fair, and major concerts in Piazza Roma. After a hiatus of several years, the event returned in 2026 thanks to the Universitas Sancti Homeri Association, blending religious tradition, entertainment, and a popular festival that unites the entire Sant'Omero community.

The most anticipated festival in Sant'Omero

The Patron Saint Festival is the heart of the identity of Sant'Omero, a town of just over five thousand inhabitants in the province of Teramo, in northern Abruzzo, just a stone's throw from the Vibrata river. Every year, around June 3rd, the village gathers around its patron saint in a celebration that combines religious, civic, and popular elements: a procession, a brass band, a fair, carnival rides, and traditional evening concerts in Piazza Roma.

A tradition spanning over twenty years

For more than two decades, the organization of the festival was entrusted to the Universitas Sancti Homeri Association, which brought major names of Italian music to the small Teramo village, from Edoardo Bennato to Stadio, from Matia Bazar to Ron, as well as Arisa, Umberto Tozzi, Michele Zarrillo, and Anna Oxa. After a few years of interruption, the event has been brought back to life thanks to the commitment of historical members and new volunteers of the association, in collaboration with the Parish, the Municipal Administration, and the La Restanza Association.

Faith, community, and entertainment

The central moment remains the procession with the statue of the patron saint, preceded by the Holy Rosary and Mass, and accompanied through the streets of the town by the marching band. Surrounding the religious rite is a program full of events designed for all ages: the non-competitive "Corri per Sant'Omero" fun run, children's entertainment, tournaments, and major evening concerts that bring the square to life until late at night, concluding with a fireworks display.

The fair and local flavors

For three days, the center of Sant'Omero fills with stalls, food stands, and carnival rides: the patron saint fair is an opportunity to rediscover the typical products of the Val Vibrata and to experience the festive atmosphere of Abruzzo's villages. The festival also represents a homecoming for those who have left the town and choose these days to return and reconnect with their community.

An identity-defining event for the Teramo region

More than just a recurring date, the Sant'Omero Patron Saint Festival is a symbol of belonging and cohesion for the entire municipality. Its return, awaited with emotion by the inhabitants, confirms the vitality of Abruzzo's popular traditions and the deep bond between the town and its patron saint.

Patron Saint Festival โ€” edition 2026

In 2026, the Sant'Omero Patron Saint Festival returned after years of hiatus, bringing the great June 3rd celebration back to Piazza Roma. Three days of fairs, religious tradition, and entertainment, with concerts by Nina Zilli and Nduccio closing the festivities in the Teramo village.

The great return of the festival

The 2026 edition marked the return of the Sant'Omero Patron Saint Festival after several years of interruption, thanks to the efforts of the Universitas Sancti Homeri Association, the Municipality, the Parish, and the La Restanza Association. A return welcomed with great enthusiasm by the community, which embraced its most cherished tradition once again.

Three days of celebration

The fair with stalls and carnival rides enlivened the center from June 1st to 3rd. On June 2nd, the "Corri per Sant'Omero" took place, a 10 km non-competitive fun run, followed in the afternoon by children's entertainment and in the evening by the comedy show of Nduccio with the Rapsodia band in Piazza Roma. On June 3rd, the patron saint's day, the Banda Cittร  di Chieti paraded through the streets of the town, followed by Mass and the procession with the saint's statue; in the evening, the concert by Nina Zilli and the final fireworks display.
