The San Vigilio Festival is the patronal feast of Monclassico, an enchanting village in the municipality of Dimaro Folgarida, in Val di Sole, in the heart of Trentino. Saint Vigilius, the third bishop of Trento and a venerated martyr, is the village's patron saint, and his feast day falls on June 26th: for this reason, the festival is traditionally held on the weekend immediately following this date.
Nestled at an altitude of about 790 meters, Monclassico is a small village with an enviable panoramic position, famous for being the "village of sundials": every summer, Italian and international artists create new sundials painted on the facades of the houses. The 18th-century church of San Vigilio is the spiritual heart of the community and the starting point for the religious moments of the festival. All around, the landscape is dominated by the Brenta Group and the Adamello Brenta Nature Park, from which numerous hiking trails branch off.
The festival intertwines religious observance with a village celebration. The central moment is the solemn mass in honor of the patron saint, followed by a procession along the village streets. The rest of the program enlivens the center of Monclassico with music and dancing throughout the event, in an atmosphere of authentic mountain conviviality.
A major highlight is the traditional cuisine of the Val di Sole and Trentino gastronomic heritage. Among the specialties served at the stands:
Attending the San Vigilio Festival is also an excellent opportunity to discover the beauty of Monclassico and its surroundings, including the sundials, stone portals, ancient frescoes, and views of the Brenta Group. The festival represents a deep dive into the identity of the local community, where devotion to the patron saint continues to be experienced as a moment of gathering and celebration for the entire village.
