A Race in the Heart of the Parma Lowlands
The San Secondo Run is the first stage of the Giro della Provincia (Province Tour), the historic road racing circuit that crosses the municipalities of the province of Parma during the warm season. It takes place in San Secondo Parmense, a lively village in the Parma lowlands of Emilia-Romagna, famous for its spalla cotta (cooked ham shoulder) and for the imposing Rocca dei Rossi, a frescoed Renaissance fortress that dominates the town square.
The Course and Distances
The event offers two participation options designed to welcome athletes and enthusiasts of all levels:
- Competitive race of approximately 7.25 km, valid for the provincial circuit and timed;
- Non-competitive recreational walk of approximately 4.5 km, open to families, beginners, and anyone who wants to participate without the pressure of the clock.
The meeting point and start are set near the Rocca dei Rossi Park, in the historic center of the town; the route winds through the village streets and the surrounding countryside, largely flat and fast.
The Province Tour
The San Secondo Run opens a calendar of stages that, week after week, visit various municipalities in the Parma area (including Sala Baganza, Felino, and other villages), enlivening summer evenings with the classic ritual of the village race followed by refreshments and a convivial moment. It is a deeply rooted tradition in the world of amateur running in Emilia, supported by local sports clubs and volunteers.
Atmosphere
More than just a race, the San Secondo Run is a popular celebration of sport: it takes place in the late afternoon or evening, when the summer heat offers some respite, and the finish line is greeted by the cheers of hundreds of participants, race packs, and club awards. The setting of the Rocca dei Rossi and its park gives the event a special charm, combining the passion for running with the discovery of the historical heritage of the Municipality of San Secondo Parmense.

The San Secondo Run 2026 kicked off the Giro della Provincia (Province Tour) calendar on Wednesday, June 10th, confirming the evening event that has brought together running enthusiasts from the province of Parma for years.
As tradition dictates, the program included the timed 7.25 km competitive race, valid for the provincial circuit, alongside the 4.5 km non-competitive recreational walk. The meeting point and start were near the Rocca dei Rossi Park, in the center of San Secondo Parmense.

How to Get There
San Secondo Parmense can be reached by car from Parma in about 20-25 minutes, taking the SP10R towards Cremona. The nearest train station is Parma, on the Milan-Bologna line, from which you can continue by bus or car.
Registration and Fees
Registration for the competitive race and the non-competitive walk can be done on-site on the day of the race or through the running clubs participating in the circuit; the fees are low, in line with the tradition of UISP (Italian Union of Sport for All) races in the Province Tour. Tips
Arrive early for the meeting and bib collection. Bring running shoes, light clothing, and a water bottle: summer stages are often run in hot and humid conditions.
