A 5.5 km non-competitive run through the alleys of the village, in the heart of the Monti Simbruini Regional Park
The San Pietro Eremita Urban Trail is a non-competitive running event that brings the streets of Trevi nel Lazio to life every mid-August. Located in the province of Frosinone, this characteristic mountain village offers a 5.5-kilometre course that traverses the historic centre and its surroundings, passing through stone alleys, offering glimpses of the Caetani Castle, and providing panoramic views of the upper Aniene Valley. The race is named after Saint Peter the Hermit, the patron saint who lived around the year 1000 and died in Trevi nel Lazio, whose legacy has been at the heart of the town's religious and civic life for nearly a millennium.
The event follows the urban trail format: a city route featuring ups and downs, staircases, and unique passages, designed to be tackled either by running or walking. The manageable distance and non-competitive nature make it accessible to families, walkers, and runners of all levels, allowing them to discover the village from an unusual perspective. The start is set in the heart of the town, in Piazza IV Novembre, where the first edition took place in 2025.
Adding prestige to the event is the presence of Giorgio Calcaterra, the popular Roman ultramarathon runner, three-time 100 km world champion, and long-time winner of the Cento km del Passatore. His participation confirms the event's mission: to bring the general public closer to running in a festive and convivial atmosphere.
Trevi nel Lazio stands at an altitude of over 800 metres within the Monti Simbruini Regional Natural Park, the largest protected area in the Lazio region, which promotes the event in its calendar of initiatives. The territory is crossed by the Cammino di San Pietro Eremita, a circular hiking trail that retraces the saint's footsteps between Lazio and Abruzzo; the urban trail represents its sporting and urban counterpart. Participants can take the opportunity to explore the beech forests, the Trevi Waterfall, and the trails of the upper Aniene Valley.
The race is part of the rich summer calendar of the Municipality of Trevi nel Lazio, which culminates at the end of August with the patronal festivities in honour of San Pietro Eremita, featuring a procession with the saint's silver bust and the traditional Palio delle Contrade. The Urban Trail, organised with the technical support of the Club Marathon Imperia and local associations, anticipates this festive atmosphere in mid-August, when the village fills with holidaymakers and families.
Registrations are handled online via the Digital Race platform, where the official flyer and regulations are published. As this is a recreational sports event, no competitive membership is required: an opportunity for everyone to experience sport in the mountains of the Ciociaria region.
On Sunday, August 16, 2026, Trevi nel Lazio will host the second edition of the San Pietro Eremita Urban Trail. The start is set for 9:00 AM from the town centre: participants will face a 5.5-kilometre non-competitive course through alleys, staircases, and scenic viewpoints of the village, in the heart of the Monti Simbruini Regional Natural Park. The event, promoted in the official Park calendar, is open to runners and walkers of all ages and will once again feature Giorgio Calcaterra, three-time 100 km world champion, as the event ambassador. Registrations are open on the Digital Race platform, where the flyer and regulations are published.
Trevi nel Lazio can be reached by car from Rome via the A24 motorway (Vicovaro-Mandela exit), continuing towards Subiaco and the Aniene Valley, or from Frosinone via Fiuggi and the Altipiano di Arcinazzo. The town is approximately 90 km from Rome and 40 km from Frosinone.
Online registration is available at digitalrace.it (in the 'Area gare' section), where the flyer and regulations can be found. For information, call +39 347 4059559 or email [email protected].
This is an urban route with climbs and staircases: running shoes with good grip are recommended. In August, the village, situated at over 800 metres above sea level, offers a cool climate ideal for running. Refreshment and accommodation options are available at local facilities recommended by the Monti Simbruini Park.
