The Patron Saint's Fair

The San Miro Fair is the traditional event of Sorico, a municipality at the northern end of Lake Como, in the province of Como, where the Mera river flows into the lake. The fair brings dozens of stalls and public trade operators to the town center, with local products and various goods.

Saint Miro, the Saint of Water

The fair is linked to the figure of Saint Miro (Miro of Canzo), a hermit and pilgrim who lived until around 1300, the patron saint of Sorico. According to tradition, Miro settled in a cave in the village, where the church of Saint Michael the Archangel later arose, subsequently renamed Saint Miro after the discovery of his relics in 1452. His cult, particularly active between the 16th and 18th centuries, consecrated him as a protector invoked for rain throughout the Duchy of Milan; even today he is revered at the Sanctuary of San Miro, a pilgrimage destination.

Between Market and Devotion

The San Miro Fair intertwines the commercial and popular dimension with the devotional aspect of the village. The allocation of pitches is done by ranking defined by the Municipality of Sorico, a sign of the continuity of an event historically rooted in the community of the Alto Lago.
