The village between lake and mountain celebrates its patron saint
The Patronal Feast of Saint Fidelis is the occasion on which Verceia, a municipality in the province of Sondrio overlooking Lake Mezzola, celebrates its patron saint. The feast takes place in autumn and combines religious celebration with the civil and community moments of the village.
As with many patronal feasts in Alpine villages, the event is marked by religious rites in honour of the saint and community participation. The feast is part of a particularly rich annual calendar: the Municipality of Verceia organises dozens of initiatives throughout the year, including cultural reviews, events linked to local traditions, sports, and tourism promotion.
Verceia is situated in a picturesque location, where Lake Mezzola meets the mountains at the entrance to Valchiavenna. Participating in the patronal feast is also a way to discover this village in Alpine Lombardy, with its landscape of water and rock and its traditions.
The 2026 edition of the Patronal Feast of Saint Fidelis in Verceia is set for October 28, as per the Municipality's annual event calendar. The day is dedicated to the religious and civil celebration of the patron saint; the detailed program will be announced by the Municipality and the parish in the preceding weeks.
The detailed 2026 program will be published by the Municipality of Verceia and the parish. The usual structure of the patronal feast includes religious rites in honour of Saint Fidelis and community events.
Verceia can be reached via the SS36 dello Spluga road, on the shores of Lake Mezzola. The nearest train station is Novate Mezzola, on the Colico-Chiavenna line.
