The San Matteo Fair is the patronal feast of Borghetto Santo Spirito, a lively town on the Riviera delle Palme in the province of Savona. It is celebrated every year on September 21st, the day dedicated to Saint Matthew the Apostle and Evangelist, the town's patron saint, and it is one of the most cherished events in the town's calendar.

The fair in the heart of the town

During the day, the streets of the town center — including Via Viglieri, Via Giardini, and Via Dante — host a large fair with stalls of all kinds, from local products to handicrafts, from clothing to household items. The fair attracts visitors from all over the region and represents a long-standing commercial tradition, managed by the Municipality which collects exhibitors' applications each year.

Procession and fireworks over the bay

The religious dimension culminates in the evening with the Mass and the solemn procession which, starting from the church of San Matteo, winds through the main streets of the town before returning. The feast concludes with the fireworks display that illuminates the bay, creating a suggestive atmosphere and gathering the entire community on the seafront.
