Parades and masks in the medieval village of Montefeltro
In 2026, the Municipality of San Leo, in the province of Rimini, launched the first edition of the San Leo Carnival: a new festival that brings masks, confetti, and lots of joy to the heart of one of Emilia-Romagna's most picturesque medieval villages. The event enlivens the historic centre and the central Piazza Dante Alighieri, at the foot of the imposing Rocca that overlooks the Valmarecchia.
The most anticipated moment is the parade of floats that winds through the main streets of the historic centre, accompanied by masked groups and the giveaway of gadgets to the public. At the end of the procession, the square transforms into a large entertainment space for all ages.
The San Leo Carnival is designed as a colourful afternoon for adults and children alike, with free admission. Promoted by the Municipality of San Leo and organized by the Società San Leo 2000, the event has involved volunteers, associations, schools, and local sponsors, recording great participation from families and children right from its first edition.
San Leo is a village perched at an altitude of 583 metres on an imposing rocky mass, accessible by a single road carved into the stone. Its medieval historic centre preserves the Pieve, the Cathedral, the Romanesque Bell Tower, and the famous Renaissance Rocca redesigned by Francesco di Giorgio Martini. Experiencing Carnival in this unique setting, among the stones of Montefeltro and the panoramas of the Valmarecchia, makes the festival even more special.
The first edition of the San Leo Carnival brought colours and joy to the medieval village at the foot of the Rocca. Promoted by the Municipality of San Leo and organized by the Società San Leo 2000, the festival saw an extraordinary turnout of families and children, with the involvement of volunteers, associations, schools, and local sponsors.
