Nautical industry and future prospects in the seaside village of San Giorgio
The San Giorgio Nautical Fair in Gioiosa Marea is an event held in the seaside village of San Giorgio, in the municipality of Gioiosa Marea, in the province of Messina, along the stretch of the Tyrrhenian coast at the foot of the Nebrodi mountains. Established in 2023, the fair is dedicated to the nautical sector and its development prospects, with a title that encapsulates its spirit: "Nautical industry, prospects for the future!".
For a few days, the San Giorgio seafront transforms into a showcase of the sea. The event offers:
The Nautical Fair is not just a summer event: it is part of a broader vision carried forward by the municipal administration and the Pro Loco San Giorgio. The stated goal is to promote the nautical sector as an economic engine capable of de-seasonalizing tourism and supporting local shipyards, restaurants, and hospitality. Among the most concrete aspirations is the construction of a tourist port in the village of San Giorgio, included in the territorial planning instruments of the Sicilian Region.
San Giorgio is the coastal hamlet of Gioiosa Marea, overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea with the Aeolian Islands on the horizon. The village retains a strong maritime identity, rooted in artisanal fishing and sea-related traditions. The fair weaves this heritage with a look toward the future, bringing institutions, experts, and the local community into dialogue about the resources of the Mediterranean.
The first two editions were held in the autumn (October 2023 and October 2024). Today, the appointment dedicated to the nautical world is part of the "GioiosaMente Estate" summer program of the Municipality of Gioiosa Marea, distributed between the town center and the village of San Giorgio.
The third edition of the San Giorgio Nautical Fair is scheduled from Friday, June 26 to Sunday, June 28, 2026, with activities starting every day at 7:00 PM. The event is part of the "GioiosaMente Estate" summer program of the Municipality of Gioiosa Marea and maintains the common thread of previous editions, "Nautical industry, prospects for the future!", with a focus on the opportunities and developments in the nautical sector.
Organized by the Pro Loco San Giorgio Association, the edition will re-propose the consolidated formula consisting of an exhibition area, conferences, a food court, and evening shows on the seafront.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition (conference speakers, exhibitors, and shows) has not yet been published and will be announced by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event.
