Alessandria's historic spring fair featuring the FloreAle flower market
The San Giorgio Fair is one of the oldest and most iconic events in Alessandria, Piedmont. Linked to the city's patron saint and held in the heart of spring, it has been the traditional way to welcome the season for centuries. Every year, it attracts thousands of visitors from the city, the surrounding province, and neighboring regions, remaining a cornerstone of the local calendar.
The San Giorgio Fair brings together various elements in one large event spread across the city of Alessandria. There is the commercial side, showcasing local vendors and traders; the agricultural and livestock sector, reflecting the rural heritage of the Monferrato area and the Alessandria plains, featuring local flavors and machinery; and the popular funfair, set up on Viale Milite Ignoto, which remains open for several weeks to delight families and young people.
The green heart of the fair is FloreAle, a flower and gardening market held in the beautiful setting of the Giardini Pubblici of Corso Crimea. Dozens of nurserymen from Piedmont, Lombardy, Liguria, and Tuscany offer lavender, Mediterranean plants, aromatic herbs, garden and terrace greenery, as well as outdoor decor and gardening equipment. It is a colorful and fragrant trail that turns the city park into a vast open-air garden, complemented by themed side events.
Promoted by the local administration in collaboration with regional bodies, the San Giorgio Fair is much more than a market: it is a collective ritual that blends commerce, agriculture, horticulture, and entertainment. Strolling through the stalls, discovering the typical products of Monferrato, and admiring the floral arrangements in the Giardini di Corso Crimea is the best way to experience the authentic spirit of Alessandria at the start of spring.
