The marathon in the heart of Umbria
The San Francesco Marathon is the symbolic running event of Assisi (province of Perugia). Its route combines sport and spirituality: 42.195 km that touch the three Franciscan sites of Assisi, Spello, and Cannara, crossing rolling hills, ancient olive groves, and timeless views of the Umbrian landscape.
Distances for everyone
In addition to the full marathon, the event offers the half marathon (21 km), the competitive and non-competitive 10 km, the "Vieni con me" walk for families, and the "Wolfy Dog Run" to be run with your dog. The start is set near the Basilica of Saint Francis, while the finish is in front of the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli.
Sport and Franciscan Centenary
The race is part of the Franciscan Centenary 2026 calendar and celebrates the deep bond between Assisi and the figure of Saint Francis. It is an opportunity to discover the Franciscan lands of Umbria by running, in a natural and spiritual context unique in Italy.

San Francesco Marathon 2026 — Centenary Edition
The San Francesco Marathon 2026 celebrates the Franciscan Centenary with a special edition, scheduled for Sunday, November 22. The start is expected around 9:15 AM near the Basilica of Saint Francis; the finish is in front of the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli.
The marathon route winds from Santa Maria towards Spello and back, crossing historic villages, hills, and olive groves of the Franciscan lands.

How to get there
Assisi is reachable by train (Santa Maria degli Angeli station, near the finish line) and by car (Ospedalicchio exit of the SS75). San Francesco international airport is a few kilometers away.
