The village of San Leo celebrates with Franciscan spirituality, medieval reenactment, and community spirit
The San Francesco Fest is a community celebration that transforms the medieval village of San Leo, in the Province of Rimini, Emilia-Romagna, for an entire weekend. The event is dedicated to the figure of Saint Francis of Assisi, who left traces of his journey in San Leo in the early 13th century: according to tradition, it was precisely here, on May 8, 1213, that the Saint was gifted the Mount of La Verna during a feast at the castle. From this historical and spiritual bond, a festival is born that intertwines faith, culture, music, and popular tradition.
The program unfolds across the squares, churches, and palaces of the historic center, appealing to audiences of all ages. Alongside religious celebrations and moments of reflection on the Saint's life, there is space for concerts of Franciscan tradition, Dantesque recitations, conferences, and cultural presentations. The popular heart of the festival is the medieval pageant, a procession that brings dozens of costumed participants, period dances, and falconry demonstrations through the village streets, in perfect harmony with the atmosphere of the Leontine rock.
What makes the San Francesco Fest special is the vibrant network of people and realities that build it: the Parish of San Leo, the Municipality of San Leo, the Community Cooperative Fer-menti Leontine, the San Leo 2000 association, and numerous local artisanal, cultural, and commercial entities. Botanical workshops, artisan wine tastings, breakfasts with local baked goods, and markets accompany visitors on an authentic experience, where the spiritual dimension merges with the discovery of the village's flavors and knowledge.
Visiting the San Francesco Fest is also an opportunity to discover San Leo, one of Italy's most beautiful villages, dominated by the imposing Renaissance Fortress and overlooking the Valmarecchia. The festival, traditionally held in early May, is the ideal time to experience the village at its warmest and most participatory.
The San Francesco Fest 2026 enlivened the village of San Leo, in the Province of Rimini, on the weekend of May 9 and 10.
