About San Celestino Fair

Every spring, Cadelbosco di Sopra, in the Reggio Emilia plains, celebrates its patron saint, Pope Saint Celestine I, with the San Celestino Fair. It's the most anticipated event in town: for a few days, the historic center and Piazza XXV Aprile are filled with stalls from the large market, Pro Loco gastronomic stands, and Luna Park rides. Between Holy Mass, shows, children's entertainment, and tastings of typical products, the fair combines popular devotion and community celebration in a typical Emilian family atmosphere.

The patronal feast of Cadelbosco di Sopra

The San Celestino Fair is the patronal feast of Cadelbosco di Sopra, a town in the lower plains of the Province of Reggio Emilia, in the heart of Emilia-Romagna. Dedicated to Pope Saint Celestine I, after whom the feast and the local parish (B.V.M. Addolorata e S. Celestino I Papa) are named, the fair returns every spring, transforming the town center into a large space for celebration and community gathering.

Market, Luna Park, and Gastronomy

The heart of the event is the great fair market, which fills Piazza XXV Aprile and the surrounding streets with dozens of stalls: clothing, crafts, home goods, and food specialties. Alongside the exhibitors, there are also tasting stands from local associations and the Pro Loco, where you can sample traditional Reggio Emilia products. For children and families, the Luna Park, set up in the Bocciodromo area, accompanies the entire duration of the fair with rides and attractions.

Between Devotion and Village Festival

The main day begins with the Holy Mass in honor of the patron saint, a moment that links the fair to its religious roots and the community's history. The market is complemented by a program of entertainment, children's games, and shows: in past editions, the fair has hosted dialect theater performances, cultural initiatives, and moments of solidarity, making it a true village festival.

A Tradition of the Reggio Emilia Plains

Always defined as "traditional," the San Celestino Fair represents one of the identity events in Cadelbosco di Sopra's calendar. It's an occasion for the town to come together, for associations to get involved, and for visitors from neighboring towns to reach the center to experience a day of market, flavors, and Emilian folklore. A family-friendly, free, and outdoor event that tells the most authentic soul of the lower Reggio Emilia region.

San Celestino Fair โ€” edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the San Celestino Fair took place from April 5th to 7th in Cadelbosco di Sopra, with a more condensed program than usual due to its coincidence with the Easter period. The heart of the event was the large market in Piazza XXV Aprile, the Pro Loco tasting stands, the Luna Park at the Bocciodromo, and the dialect theater performance that concluded the patron saint's festivities.

The San Celestino Fair 2026 was held in Cadelbosco di Sopra (Reggio Emilia) from Sunday, April 5th to Tuesday, April 7th, with a reduced program compared to previous editions due to its overlap with the Easter holidays. The patronal feast nevertheless confirmed its most cherished events for the community: the Holy Mass in honor of Pope Saint Celestine I, the large market that animated the town center, the gastronomic stands organized by local associations, and the traditional Luna Park. To conclude the festivities, a free theater performance in dialect was offered to the citizens.
