The patronal feast of the Brecciarola district in Chieti
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The San Bartolomeo Festival is the patronal feast of the Brecciarola district, a suburb of Chieti in the Abruzzo region. Every year, towards the end of August, the community gathers around its patron saint, the Apostle Saint Bartholomew, in a celebration that blends religious devotion, folk traditions, and live entertainment. It is one of the most cherished events in the Chieti summer calendar and traditionally opens the official Eventi Scalini series, which brings life to the districts of Chieti until September.
The heart of the festival remains the religious observance: the solemn mass in honor of Saint Bartholomew the Apostle and the procession through the streets of the district, accompanied by the Città di Chieti Band. The brass music, the parade through the neighborhood, and the prayers of the faithful mark the days, upholding a tradition deeply rooted in the local community for generations.
Alongside the religious dimension, the evenings in Piazza San Bartolomeo offer free concerts and entertainment, featuring Italian music stars and shows for all ages. The festival typically concludes with a fireworks display that lights up the sky over Brecciarola in honor of the patron saint. Admission to all events in the square is free.
The organization is managed by the San Bartolomeo Festival Committee of Brecciarola, working in collaboration with the Chieti Municipal Administration. The event is much more than a simple anniversary: it represents a moment of gathering for the district and the entire Province of Chieti, capable of uniting different generations and strengthening the identity of the suburb.
The San Bartolomeo Festival is held every year around August 24th, the day dedicated to the patron saint, with a program that generally spans the last weekend of August. Dates and the program for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced.
