The San Bartolomeo Fair and Festival is a traditional summer highlight in Corsano, a town in the lower Salento area of the province of Lecce, in the Puglia region. Every year, around August 24th — the date the Church celebrates the Apostle Bartholomew — Largo San Bartolo comes alive with stalls, lights, and music, becoming a meeting point for locals and visitors from the nearby towns of the Capo di Leuca.
Although he is not the main patron saint of Corsano — a title held by Saint Blaise, celebrated in both winter and summer — the Apostle Bartholomew is the object of deep-rooted popular devotion, centered around the square that bears his name. The festival alternates between religious moments, such as services and the procession, and secular entertainment, following the typical pattern of Salento village festivals, complete with luminarie (decorative lights), a marching band, and fireworks.
The secular heart of the event is the fair, an ancient market tradition rooted in the area's agricultural history. Historically dedicated to livestock trading, today the fair primarily offers:
The fair remains an important commercial and social gathering for Corsano and the surrounding municipalities.
The event spans three days of religious and secular festivities. The town center streets fill with visitors, while Largo San Bartolo hosts stands and entertainment. It is the authentic atmosphere of a southern patronal festival, where devotion intertwines with community life and the joy of gathering on warm August evenings.
Located at the southern tip of Salento, just a few kilometers from Santa Maria di Leuca and the Adriatic coast, Corsano boasts a rich calendar of festivals and fairs that mark the year: from the Saint Blaise Fair in February to the Santa Maura Fair in May, and finally the San Bartolomeo Festival at the end of August. For those spending their holidays in the Capo di Leuca, this festival is the perfect opportunity to experience an authentic popular tradition, far from the most crowded tourist circuits.
The dates and detailed program for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced by the organizers. Traditionally, the festival takes place around August 24th. Information will be updated as soon as the official calendar is published by the Municipality of Corsano.
