About Scoppito Truffle Festival

Every year in early August, the village of San Bartolomeo di Scoppito, in the province of L'Aquila, celebrates its most precious treasure with the Truffle Festival. At the food stalls in the scenic Are Sante area, visitors can enjoy truffle tagliolini, bruschetta, and omelets prepared according to ancient Abruzzese traditions, while live music and dancing enliven the village every evening. This historic festival, now in its third decade, blends gastronomy, conviviality, and the promotion of the L'Aquila mountain region.

A festival dedicated to the black truffle of Abruzzo

The San Bartolomeo di Scoppito Truffle Festival is one of the most deeply rooted culinary events in the L'Aquila area. Every year in early August, the small hamlet of San Bartolomeo, in the municipality of Scoppito (Province of L'Aquila, Abruzzo), transforms into a vibrant crossroads of flavors and traditions, framed by the gentle mountains surrounding the L'Aquila basin, which are rich in precious black truffles.

Truffle as the star of the table

The heart of the event is the food stalls, which open every evening around 8:00 PM in the scenic Are Sante area, a true natural balcony overlooking the plateau. Here, the local black truffle takes center stage in dishes prepared with skill and tradition:

  • Truffle tagliolini, the festival's signature dish;
  • Truffle-scented bruschetta;
  • Omelets and other delicacies of Abruzzese cuisine;
  • Local specialties prepared according to ancient family recipes.

Music, dancing, and conviviality

Beyond the food, the Truffle Festival offers live music, shows, and dance evenings every night that keep the village lively until late. Orchestras, cover bands, and DJ sets take turns on stage, attracting visitors from across the province and creating an authentic popular festival atmosphere where generations come together.

A long-standing tradition

Founded in the mid-nineties, the festival has surpassed its thirtieth edition, establishing itself as one of the region's main summer events. After a few years of forced hiatus, the event returned with renewed enthusiasm thanks to the efforts of the Proville Cultural Association, which organizes the festival with the goal of promoting the territory through its gastronomic excellence and showcasing the black truffle of Abruzzo, harvested in surprising quantities on the mountains of Scoppito.

Why attend

The San Bartolomeo di Scoppito Truffle Festival is the perfect opportunity to combine a trip into the nature of the L'Aquila region with an evening of great food. The combination of the mountain landscape, the friendliness of the locals, and the quality of the truffle-based dishes makes this festival an unmissable event of the Abruzzese summer.

The Proville Cultural Association traditionally organizes the San Bartolomeo di Scoppito Truffle Festival in early August. It is recommended to check the organizer's social media channels for updated information.

The San Bartolomeo di Scoppito Truffle Festival is a staple of the L'Aquila summer, traditionally held in the first days of August. At the moment, the official dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced by the Proville Cultural Association.
