The festival celebrating Abruzzo's black truffle in the mountains of Scoppito
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The San Bartolomeo di Scoppito Truffle Festival is one of the most deeply rooted culinary events in the L'Aquila area. Every year in early August, the small hamlet of San Bartolomeo, in the municipality of Scoppito (Province of L'Aquila, Abruzzo), transforms into a vibrant crossroads of flavors and traditions, framed by the gentle mountains surrounding the L'Aquila basin, which are rich in precious black truffles.
The heart of the event is the food stalls, which open every evening around 8:00 PM in the scenic Are Sante area, a true natural balcony overlooking the plateau. Here, the local black truffle takes center stage in dishes prepared with skill and tradition:
Beyond the food, the Truffle Festival offers live music, shows, and dance evenings every night that keep the village lively until late. Orchestras, cover bands, and DJ sets take turns on stage, attracting visitors from across the province and creating an authentic popular festival atmosphere where generations come together.
Founded in the mid-nineties, the festival has surpassed its thirtieth edition, establishing itself as one of the region's main summer events. After a few years of forced hiatus, the event returned with renewed enthusiasm thanks to the efforts of the Proville Cultural Association, which organizes the festival with the goal of promoting the territory through its gastronomic excellence and showcasing the black truffle of Abruzzo, harvested in surprising quantities on the mountains of Scoppito.
The San Bartolomeo di Scoppito Truffle Festival is the perfect opportunity to combine a trip into the nature of the L'Aquila region with an evening of great food. The combination of the mountain landscape, the friendliness of the locals, and the quality of the truffle-based dishes makes this festival an unmissable event of the Abruzzese summer.
The San Bartolomeo di Scoppito Truffle Festival is a staple of the L'Aquila summer, traditionally held in the first days of August. At the moment, the official dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced by the Proville Cultural Association.
If the event follows its usual format, it will return to the scenic Are Sante area with food stalls dedicated to the black truffle of Abruzzo and evenings of music and dancing. For final dates and the program, please refer to the organization's official channels.
San Bartolomeo is a hamlet of the municipality of Scoppito (AQ), along the road to L'Aquila. By car, it can be reached from the A24 motorway (L'Aquila Ovest exit), continuing towards Scoppito; the Are Sante area is indicated by signs during the event. The reference train station is L'Aquila.
The food stalls open every evening from 8:00 PM. Admission to the festival area is free; you pay for what you consume according to the stall menus.
The location is at a high altitude: it can get chilly on summer evenings, so a light jacket is recommended. Ample parking is available near the festival area.
