The summer literary festival of Salice, between authors and readers
Every summer, Salice Reading Community transforms the center of Salice Salentino, in the province of Lecce, into a meeting point for authors and readers. Promoted by the municipal administration together with the Community Library, the festival offers a series of book presentations and dialogues with writers, journalists, and public speakers, designed to bring citizens closer to reading and turn books into an opportunity for shared debate.
The heart of the event is the Cloister of the Convento Madonna della Visitazione, home to the local Community Library. In this historic outdoor space, during summer evenings, meetings become intimate and engaging moments: the author presents their work, followed by a dialogue with the audience through questions and reflections. It is a simple yet effective formula that has made the festival an anticipated event in the Salento cultural calendar.
The program alternates between well-known national figures and voices from the Salento area. Topics range from scientific popularization and current affairs—such as artificial intelligence and its impact on daily life—to fiction and women's writing, as well as works by authors linked to Salice Salentino itself. Each evening is a small journey, capable of speaking to a wide audience of all ages.
As the name suggests, Salice Reading Community is born from the idea that reading is a shared asset: not a solitary activity, but a way to be together, discuss, and grow as a collective. The Community Library thus becomes much more than a place to borrow books: it is the engine of continuous cultural programming that culminates in the summer festival but continues throughout the year.
Known worldwide for its DOC wine, Salice Salentino is a town in the Salento hinterland that knows how to combine agricultural tradition with cultural vibrancy. The literary festival is a piece of this identity: an invitation to discover the town not only for its wineries but also for its ability to put words, stories, and people at the center. In the heart of Puglia, between Lecce and Brindisi, reading becomes a way to tell the story of and experience the community.
The fifth edition of Salice Reading Community opens in the summer of 2026 with a first part consisting of four meetings, hosted as always at the Cloister of the Convento Madonna della Visitazione, home to the Community Library of Salice Salentino. The program alternates between big names on the national scene — from journalist and popularizer Alessandro Cecchi Paone to writer Dacia Maraini — and voices linked to the Salento area, for a journey ranging from artificial intelligence to fiction and women's writing. The festival, promoted by the municipal administration, will continue with a second part after the summer, featuring new guests and events.
All meetings take place at the Cloister of the Convento Madonna della Visitazione, home to the Community Library. A second part of the festival is planned after the summer, with new guests and events yet to be announced.
Meetings are held at the Cloister of the Convento Madonna della Visitazione, home to the Community Library of Salice Salentino (LE), in the heart of Salento.
