The singing competition for emerging young talents in Salento
The Gran Tenzone Carmianese Song Contest is the musical showcase that enlivens Carmiano, a town in the province of Lecce in the heart of Salento, Puglia, every summer. Created to highlight the area's young talents, the competition is dedicated to emerging artists who wish to test themselves before a qualified jury and the warmth of the local audience. The event is organized by the Carmiano Nostra Association, a local volunteer group that has been committed to the town's cultural and social promotion for years.
The competition is open to soloists, duos, trios, bands, and school bands residing in the province of Lecce. Contestants take the stage with covers, bringing their own personal interpretation of famous songs: from Italian light music to the great classics of singer-songwriters and international pop. The artistic direction selects the fifteen finalists who advance to the final evening.
The highlight is the final evening, held in the Atrium of the "A. Lecciso" Primary School, overlooking Piazza del Tempo. The finalists perform live accompanied by the Gran Tenzone Band, a full musical ensemble complete with drums, guitar, bass, keyboards, and violins, which gives each performance the dimension of a concert. Performances are judged by a jury composed of professionals from the music industry.
Beyond the competitive aspect, the Gran Tenzone Carmianese is a celebration of community and solidarity. In recent years, the evening has become part of the "Friends & Solidarity Days" program, featuring a fundraiser to support local charitable initiatives, such as the LILT's Centro Ilma. Admission is free, confirming the popular and inclusive vocation of an event that has become a benchmark for the Salento youth music scene and Carmiano's summer over the years.
The 4th edition of the Gran Tenzone Carmianese Song Contest is scheduled for Saturday, July 18, 2026, starting at 8:30 PM in the Atrium of the "A. Lecciso" Primary School in Carmiano. The jury will be chaired by Maria Grazia Fontana, a vocal coach and musician known for her collaborations on Rai 1.
The fifteen finalists selected by the artistic direction will perform their covers live, accompanied by the Gran Tenzone Band (drums, guitar, bass, keyboards, and violins). Up for grabs are the Absolute First Prize of 500 euros with the release of an original song on streaming platforms, the "Prof. Trentino Giovanni Mazzotta" Prize of 300 euros, and the "Carmiano Nostra" Social Prize of 200 euros.
The evening concludes the 2nd edition of the "Friends & Solidarity Days" and includes a fundraiser to support the LILT's Centro Ilma. Free admission. Registration closed on April 12, 2026.
