About Salento Pride

Salento Pride is the LGBTQIA+ rights march that has been crossing the Salento territory since 2016, uniting the provinces of Lecce, Brindisi, and Taranto. Born in Gallipoli as a traveling project, it is now a political and cultural event that brings thousands of people to parade through the streets of Lecce's historic center. A colorful and participatory procession, blending advocacy, memory, and celebration, calling for equality, inclusion, and freedom for everyone.

The Pride of Salento

Salento Pride is the major demonstration for LGBTQIA+ community rights that enlivens the baroque capital and, over the years, various locations across the Salento peninsula every summer. More than just a parade, it is a traveling political and cultural project that connects the provinces of Lecce, Brindisi, and Taranto, building a widespread network of associations, activists, and active citizens.

A history born in Gallipoli

The idea took shape in 2015 and materialized the following year: the first edition was held in Gallipoli in 2016, with a parade along the coast ending on the beach at sunset. From the beginning, the goal has been to go beyond the annual event format, transforming Pride into a cultural laboratory capable of engaging with the traditions and popular soul of Salento. Over time, Salento Pride has established itself as a social promotion association (APS) and formalized a political coordination body dedicated to drafting policy documents and awareness-raising events.

The procession in Lecce

For several editions, the event has chosen Lecce as its beating heart: the procession winds through the city's historic center, past the facades of Lecce Baroque, the Villa Comunale, and the ancient city gates. The parade attracts thousands of people and is distinguished by its focus on accessibility, with routes designed to be inclusive and rest areas along the way. The format includes an initial gathering, the procession with political speeches, and a final open mic session open to all participating groups.

Themes and values

Salento Pride defines itself as anti-fascist, anti-racist, pacifist, and trans-feminist. At the core of its demands are equal rights, inclusion, and, in particular, the condition of trans people, described as the minority within the minority. Each edition revolves around a slogan and a theme that serve as a compass for the months leading up to the event, marked by open days and various activities across the region.

An event for the city and for Puglia

With the patronage and involvement of the Municipality of Lecce and the Province of Lecce, Salento Pride is now one of the most significant events of the Apulian summer: an occasion for participation, celebration, and collective reflection that paints the city rainbow and reaffirms the value of hard-won rights.

Salento Pride โ€” edition 2026

On July 18, 2026, Salento Pride returns to Lecce for its tenth edition, a milestone celebrating ten years of activism and visibility in Southern Italy. The chosen slogan is "We were already the future": a call to continuity and the identity of a movement that, faced with the risk of seeing hard-won rights questioned, relaunches its mobilization across the provinces of Lecce, Brindisi, and Taranto.

The tenth anniversary of Salento Pride

The 2026 edition marks ten years of Salento Pride and is held in Lecce on Saturday, July 18. Under the programmatic slogan "We were already the future", the procession crosses the city's historic center with the usual format: an initial gathering, the parade with political speeches, and a final open mic session open to all participating groups.

The lead-up has been marked by various open days across the region, starting from the one in Parabita at Palazzo Ferrari and events in Villa Castelli and central Lecce. Announced guests include MP Alessandro Zan and artist Simonetta Musitano, with a program revolving around the defense of rights and the condition of trans people. Final information on times and the route will be released on the committee's official channels in the weeks prior.
