The patronal feast of Moena, blending devotion, Ladin tradition, and community spirit
The Saint Vigilius Festival, known in the Ladin language as Segra de Sen Vile, is the patronal feast of Moena, a charming village in the Val di Fassa, located in the province of Trento and in the heart of the Trentino-Alto Adige region. It is celebrated every year on June 26th, the day dedicated to Saint Vigilius, the patron saint of the town and the entire Province of Trento, whose figure also names the parish church that dominates the historic center.
The Segra de Sen Vile is one of the most cherished occasions for the Moena community. The day weaves together devotion, Ladin identity, and community spirit: the festival is not just a religious moment, but a collective celebration of an entire town that identifies with its roots. The Mass celebrated in the Ladin language testifies to the cultural importance of the linguistic minority of the Val di Fassa, while the participation of civil authorities, rescue services, cultural groups, and volunteer associations highlights the social fabric of the village.
The festival begins at dawn with the traditional "Sveglia Moena" (Moena Wake-up Call): the Municipal Band and local associations parade through the streets of the historic center in a cheerful musical re-enactment. This is followed by the solemn Mass in Ladin in honor of Saint Vigilius, attended by authorities and traditional groups. The day continues with band concerts, the opening of the marquee serving traditional Trentino cuisine, and a rich entertainment program that lasts until the evening.
Set among the peaks of the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites, the Segra de Sen Vile offers residents and visitors the chance to experience the authentic Ladin culture of the Val di Fassa. In a premier tourist setting, the festival maintains its popular and communal character, becoming an unmissable event in the summer calendar of the Municipality of Moena.
On June 26, 2026, Moena celebrated its patron saint, Saint Vigilius, with a day full of events, this year integrated into the Dolomites Music Festival. From the morning wake-up call by the band to the evening party, the entire village experienced its most cherished tradition.
Moena can be reached by car along the SS48 Dolomite road; the nearest motorway exits are Egna/Ora (A22) or Bressanone. By train, the reference stations are Ora/Auer or Trento, with connecting Trentino Trasporti bus lines towards the Val di Fassa.
The festival is celebrated on June 26th, the day of Saint Vigilius, the patron saint of Moena.
Participation in the festival and the Mass is free. Food and drinks at the gastronomic marquee are for purchase.
