The Saint Victor Patronal Feast is the most cherished celebration in Rosignano Monferrato, a small hilltop town in the province of Alessandria, Piedmont, located in the heart of the Casale Monferrato area. Every May, the community gathers to honor its protector, Saint Victor the Moor, a martyr venerated since ancient times throughout the Lombardy-Piedmont region.
The local parish is dedicated to Saint Victor the Martyr. The Church of Saint Victor has a unique history: the building was founded in 1481 as a Discalced Carmelite convent, dedicated to the Blessed Virgin of Mount Carmel and consecrated on May 2, 1507. Following the suppression of the convent by Pope Innocent X, the church was rededicated to Saint Victor in 1653 and became a parish church under the Diocese of Casale Monferrato. Its facade, featuring a characteristic horizontal alternation of stone and brick bands, buttresses, and pinnacles, is one of the village's most recognizable landmarks.
The patronal feast is the moment when the entire community of Rosignano Monferrato renews its bond with its roots. The figure of the patron saint brings together religious life, with liturgical celebrations in the parish church, and social life, marked by meetings and conviviality throughout the village streets. Like many patronal feasts in the Monferrato region, it preserves an ancient identity deeply rooted in the territory.
Rosignano Monferrato stands on a ridge surrounded by the vineyards of Monferrato, a wine-growing landscape recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The village is famous for its infernot—characteristic cellars carved into the local stone—and for the production of typical wines such as Grignolino and Barbera. Experiencing the patronal feast is also an opportunity to discover an authentic corner of rural Piedmont, filled with churches, panoramic views, and food and wine traditions.
The Saint Victor Feast unites the town's residents and welcomes visitors eager to experience the life of a Monferrato village firsthand. Between faith and celebration, it is one of those events that mark the calendar of the Rosignano community, preserving memories and traditions passed down from generation to generation.
The 2026 Saint Victor Patronal Feast in Rosignano Monferrato is scheduled for May 8th, the traditional day dedicated to the village's patron saint. The festivities center around the Parish Church of Saint Victor the Martyr, the spiritual heart of the local community.
