Saint Roch in Caspoggio

The Saint Roch Festival is one of the most cherished events of the summer in Caspoggio, a municipality in Valmalenco, in the Province of Sondrio, nestled in the Valtellina mountains at over 1,000 meters above sea level. The festival, dedicated to Saint Roch, falls around Ferragosto and combines two deeply rooted traditions in the village: mountain sports and Valtellina cuisine.

The Corsa sui Munt

August 15th is dedicated to the Corsa sui Munt (Mountain Race), a footrace organized by ASD Caspoggio. The course winds along the trails and mountain pastures surrounding the village—the munt in dialect—offering athletes and enthusiasts the challenge of elevation changes and, at the same time, spectacular views of Valmalenco and the surrounding peaks. It is an event that celebrates the deep bond between the community and its mountains.

The Saint Roch Pizzocherata

August 16th is the day of the Saint Roch Pizzocherata: starting at 7:00 PM, at the marquee set up at the elementary school in Caspoggio, the famous pizzoccheri are served, Valtellina's signature dish made with buckwheat pasta, savoy cabbage, potatoes, and cheese. The evening is accompanied by an accordion and live music, in an atmosphere of genuine and convivial village festivity.

A Mountain Tradition

More than just a gastronomic event, the Saint Roch Festival is a moment of identity for Caspoggio and for the entire Valmalenco. Between the exertion of the race, the aroma of pizzoccheri, and the notes of the accordion, the festival tells the story of Valtellina's mountain culture and renews each year the community spirit of a village that thrives on summer and winter tourism.
