Faith, music, and tradition in the heart of the Supino summer, at the foot of the Lepini Mountains
In Supino, a Ciociaria village in the province of Frosinone nestled on the slopes of the Lepini Mountains, the celebrations in honor of Saint Lawrence, the town's patron saint, take place in August, at the height of the summer season. The patronal festival is a centerpiece of the summer calendar promoted by the municipal administration together with the Pro Loco Supino, committees, and local associations: for the community, it is an occasion of joy, prayer, and entertainment that unites residents, visitors, and those who have returned to the village for their holidays.
The highlight of the festival is August 10th, the liturgical feast day of Saint Lawrence the Martyr. Religious celebrations are centered in the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore, along Viale Regina Margherita, and culminate in a solemn procession that winds through the town's streets—a moment of great popular participation where the community renews its bond with the patron saint. In the 2025 edition, the festivities lasted from morning until late at night.
Alongside the religious program, the festival features a rich array of popular events: the evenings around August 10th, particularly the 9th and 10th, traditionally offer a full musical program in the square, while the watermelon festival refreshes summer nights with the iconic fruit of the season, distributed in a spirit of cheerful conviviality.
The Saint Lawrence celebrations are historically accompanied by the Emigrant's Festival, dedicated to the many people from Supino who emigrated during the 20th century, especially to Canada and the United States. The program includes mass at Santa Maria Maggiore, a floral tribute at the Emigrant Monument in the Toronto Gardens, visits to the archaeological area, and a community dinner that brings emigrants and residents together around the same table: a collective ritual that tells the deep identity of the village.
The patronal festival is part of the Supino 360° calendar, the collection of events with which the Municipality of Supino enlivens the summer season: in August, the program also includes the 'Vivere la Montagna' series, the prestigious 'Guelfo Nalli' International Horn Players Meeting, Cinema under the stars, Borgo Ortelle, and the feast of Saint Pius X, while in early September, the baton passes to the feast of Saint Roch with its characteristic doughnut festival.
Visiting Supino during the festival is also an opportunity to discover an authentic village in the Lazio Region: the compact historic center, the churches of Saint Peter, Saint Nicholas, and Santa Maria Maggiore, the mountain trails, and the archaeological remains from the Roman era. The Saint Lawrence festival, with its blend of devotion, music, and flavors, remains the best way to experience the soul of this Ciociaria community.
For 2026, the community of Supino is once again preparing to celebrate its patron saint, Saint Lawrence, in the heart of summer: the festival is part of the Supino 360° calendar promoted by the Municipality with the Pro Loco and local associations. The most anticipated moment remains August 10th, with celebrations in the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore and the solemn procession through the village streets.
Alongside the religious program, popular events that traditionally accompany the festival will return: musical evenings on August 9th and 10th, the watermelon festival, and the Emigrant's Festival, which brings together current residents and those who have emigrated, particularly to Canada and the United States. The detailed program for the 2026 edition, including times and guest performers, will be announced by the organizers as the festival approaches.
