The patronal feast of Nebbiuno, located on the Vergante hills overlooking Lake Maggiore
The Saint George Patronal Feast is the most cherished event of the year for Nebbiuno, a village in the Vergante area in the Province of Novara, Piedmont, nestled on the hills overlooking Lake Maggiore. Saint George the Martyr is the community's patron saint, and the parish church is dedicated to him: every spring, the town gathers around its bell tower for two days of religious celebrations and popular festivities.
The festival is organized by the Vergante Missionary Pastoral Unit together with the parish and the local community. The program alternates between liturgical moments and social gatherings: Saturday evening kicks off with an alpine dinner with live music, while Sunday is dedicated to the solemn Holy Mass, the community lunch under the alpine marquee set up next to the parish house, and family games at the oratory.
Unlike the large tourist events on Lake Maggiore, the Saint George Feast retains the intimate and genuine atmosphere of Piedmontese patronal festivals: it is the community of Nebbiuno that gets involved, prepares the tables, accompanies the children to their First Communion, and opens its doors to the neighboring towns of the Vergante. A perfect opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the Novara hinterland, far from the most crowded circuits.
The festival is traditionally held around the feast day of Saint George, at the end of April. For 2026, the event is scheduled for Saturday, April 25th and Sunday, April 26th, in the heart of Nebbiuno.
Nebbiuno is located on the Vergante hills, in the Province of Novara, a short distance from the Piedmontese shore of Lake Maggiore. By car, it can be reached from the A26 motorway (Arona or Meina exit) by driving up towards the Vergante. By train, the reference station is Meina or Arona on the Lake Maggiore line, with a connection by bus or taxi to Nebbiuno.
The celebrations take place at the parish church of Saint George, the parish house, and the oratory of Nebbiuno. The alpine marquee for lunch is set up next to the parish house.
The Saturday evening alpine dinner and the Sunday lunch require reservations. For information and bookings, it is recommended to contact the parish of Nebbiuno or visit the website of the Vergante Missionary Pastoral Unit.
