A winter festival in the heart of the Alto Sangro

The Saint Anthony Abbot Festival is one of the most deeply rooted traditions in Scontrone, a small mountain village in the province of L'Aquila perched at over a thousand meters in altitude, in the Alto Sangro district. Every year, on January 17th, the village gathers around the figure of the hermit saint, protector of domestic animals and livestock, in an event that marks the most vibrant moment of the long Abruzzo Apennine winter.
