Free concerts on church forecourts and historic sites in Florence
Sagrati in Musica is the summer concert series through which the Associazione Toscana Classica brings great music out of traditional concert halls and back into the city, turning church forecourts and iconic Florence landmarks into open-air stages. The initiative, part of the Estate Fiorentina program promoted by the Municipality of Florence, has become a highly anticipated event for residents and visitors of the Tuscan capital.
The heart of the festival is its accessibility: all concerts are free and take place outdoors, on the forecourts of churches in the city center and surrounding neighborhoods. The stated goal is to bring a diverse audience closer to music, fostering mindful listening while breathing new life into urban spaces of great symbolic and architectural value.
The artistic selection is intentionally eclectic, spanning from the precision of Baroque music to the passion of Argentine tango, from Mexican mariachi dances to beloved film scores from the big and small screen. The program also features great classics, such as Peter and the Wolf performed by the Wind Quintet of the Orchestra Toscana Classica, along with tributes to international pop and performances by eclectic ensembles associated with the orchestra.
Concerts are held in some of the most scenic forecourts in the historic center and beyond: the Misericordia del Duomo, the Basilica of Santa Croce, the Basilica of Santissima Annunziata, the Church of Santa Maria del Carmine, the Church of Santa Felicita, and the Istituto Salesiano dell'Immacolata, extending as far as the Parish of the Beata Vergine Maria Madre delle Grazie in the Isolotto district. It is an itinerary that invites you to rediscover a lesser-known Florence, nestled between art masterpieces and corners beloved by the locals.
Behind the festival is the Associazione Toscana Classica, a concert organization based in the capital of Tuscany that is active year-round with its own orchestra and musical season. With Sagrati in Musica, the association brings its repertoire out of the halls during the summer, fostering a dialogue between classical and popular music that has become the hallmark of the project within the Florentine cultural landscape.
The ninth edition of Sagrati in Musica takes place in Florence from June 4 to September 6, 2026, featuring twenty free concerts held on church forecourts and in the city's most iconic locations. The series, promoted by the Associazione Toscana Classica as part of the Estate Fiorentina, confirms its successful formula: open-air music, free admission, and a program that blends diverse genres and cultures.
