The Sagra di San Bortolo is the patronal festival of Salzano, a municipality in the metropolitan city of Venice, dedicated to Saint Bartholomew the Apostle (in Venetian dialect "San Bortolo"). The festival, organised by the Pro Loco (local tourism board) together with the parish, enlivens the town centre with religious, gastronomic, and entertainment events.
The màsaro de Salsàn
The signature dish is the màsaro, the male duck (a domestic male duck) traditionally raised in the local farmyards and consumed precisely on Saint Bartholomew's feast day. The competition "Màsaro de Salsàn" is dedicated to its rediscovery, celebrating a specialty linked to the ancient rural civilisation of the Veneto region.
Stands, funfair, and fireworks
The event features a food stand, a large funfair, competitions and shows, and concludes with the final fireworks display. There is also a religious procession in honour of the patron saint.
