The recreation of a village fair from the early 20th century and the living goose game in the square
The Fiera de l'Oca e Zogo de l'Oca in Piazza is a historical reenactment that, every year on the second weekend of November, takes Mirano (province of Venice) back to the atmosphere of a village fair from the early 20th century, during the days of Saint Martin's summer. The tradition has its roots in the custom of celebrating November 11th, at the end of the agricultural year, by eating goose: a practice restored in 1998 by Roberto Gallorini of the Pro Loco and Sandro Zara.
For two days, the historic centre comes alive with the Fiera de l'Oca and the Ocaria market: stalls with typical gastronomic products (from Friuli to Lomellina), artisans, costumed figures, and street performances. Goose specialities — from goose sausage sandwiches to stuffed goslings, from risotto to goose ravioli — can be enjoyed in taverns recreated in the early 20th-century style.
The heart of the event is the Zogo de l'Oca in Piazza, a living goose game conceived by artist Carlo Preti with 63 squares illustrated with anecdotes of the city, superimposed on the oval of Piazza Martiri della Libertà with 2x2 metre squares, giant dice, and pawns. Six teams from the hamlets — Scaltenigo, Vetrego, Campocroce, Ballò, Zianigo, and Mirano itself — compete to reach square 63; the prize is donated to local charities. The event, organised by the Pro Loco Mirano, has received the "Quality Event" recognition presented at the Senate of the Republic.
For 2026, the Fiera de l'Oca e Zogo de l'Oca in Piazza is expected on the second weekend of November, coinciding with Saint Martin's summer: the most likely window is November 14-15, 2026, with confirmation from Pro Loco Mirano. It will be the 23rd edition of the reenactment.
The great classics return: the Fiera de l'Oca with the Ocaria market, costumed figures, street performances, and taverns with goose specialities; on Sunday afternoon, the living Zogo de l'Oca on the oval of Piazza Martiri, with the six teams from the hamlets competing to reach square 63 and donate the prize to charity.
The detailed programme and official dates for the 2026 Fiera de l'Oca will be announced by Pro Loco Mirano closer to the event. The established two-day structure includes:
