The patron saint's festival

On August 15th, the solemnity of the Assumption of Mary, is the day of the patronal festival of Mogliano Veneto, in the province of Treviso. The town is indeed dedicated to Mary Most Holy Assumed into Heaven, patroness of the Archpriestal Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, the main and oldest place of worship in the municipality.

The Archpriestal Cathedral, heart of the community

The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta has its roots in the ancient Benedictine complex of Mogliano: according to the abbey's founding act (997), a parish church with a baptistery already existed on the site where the current church stands. Today it is the archpriestal church of the diocese of Treviso and the seat of the vicariate of Mogliano. On the feast of the Assumption, it becomes the centre of the town's religious life, with the solemn Mass and prayer moments that bring the community together.

Ferragosto in Mogliano

The patronal festival falls in the height of summer, coinciding with Ferragosto, and is ideally linked to the numerous summer sagre (local festivals) in the hamlets of Mogliano — from Zerman to Campocroce to Mazzocco — which liven up the area during the same period. However, the celebration of the Assumption remains above all a recurrence of faith and identity, rooted in the thousand-year history of the Veneto municipality.
