About Sagra della Caldarrosta
A tradition spanning over forty years
The Sagra della Caldarrosta is the autumn festival that has enlivened Trezzano Rosa, a municipality in the Martesana area within the Metropolitan City of Milan, for over forty years. Organized by the Pro Loco Il Gelso in collaboration with the municipal administration, the festival traditionally takes place on the third Sunday of October and spans three days (it was in its 47th edition in 2023).
It is one of the most cherished local events, also documented by the Ecomuseo Martesana as an intangible heritage of the territory. The chestnut is its symbol: during the festival, roasted chestnuts (caldarroste) are offered for free, following a ritual that evokes autumn and conviviality.
Music, markets, and the district challenge
The program fills the town for three days with events designed for all ages: music and shows, art exhibitions, rides and attractions, markets, creative workshops, and a fireworks display. The covered gastronomic area offers traditional Milanese and Lombard dishes.
A distinctive element is the challenge between the town's five districts: the historic race that once concluded the festival has been replaced, for animal welfare reasons, by a competition with carts pulled by district representatives—a sign of how tradition can evolve while keeping its identity alive.

The Sagra della Caldarrosta returns to Trezzano Rosa in 2026 as an annual event, around the third Sunday of October. At present, the exact dates and program have not yet been published. The festival, organized by Pro Loco Il Gelso, enlivens the town for three days with music, shows, markets, rides, Lombard dishes, and the ritual of offered chestnuts.

Trezzano Rosa is located in the Martesana region, northeast of Milan. By car from SP2 "Monza-Trezzo" or from the A4 motorway (Trezzo sull'Adda exit); by train, get off at Trezzo sull'Adda station on the Milan-Bergamo line (via Carnate), then take local transport.
