A month of culture, gastronomy, and tradition between Pozzuolo and Trecella
In Pozzuolo Martesana, a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Milan in the heart of the Martesana region, the arrival of autumn coincides with Settembre in Festa: not a single event but an entire festival that enlivens the town and the hamlet of Trecella throughout the month of September. The event accompanies the festa patronale (patronal feast), linked to the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, and has established itself over time as one of the most deeply rooted cultural events in the area.
The roots of Settembre in Festa lie in the historic Sagra del Formaggio (Cheese Festival), born in the early '70s when Pozzuolo held the territorial record for dairy traders. At that time, about ten cheese merchants set up elaborate stands, with milk fountains and wooden structures, competing for the most beautiful display and offering tastings of polenta and gorgonzola. That dairy heritage still lives on today in the festival's tastings.
The events are distributed across symbolic locations in the municipality: Palazzo Fumagalli, the town hall, the Church of San Francesco in a rare Lombard Gothic style, and the Oratorio S. Luigi in Pozzuolo; in the hamlet of Trecella, from Piazza San Marco to the Oratorio S. Giovanni Bosco, up to Via San Rocco and Piazza Vittorio Emanuele.
The program intertwines photography and painting exhibitions, concerts, theatrical and entertainment performances, sports competitions, and fishing competitions, alongside community tastings: polenta and gorgonzola, sandwiches with salamella (a type of sausage), and Nutella bread for the little ones. Coordinated by the Municipality together with the Pro Loco (local tourist association) and local associations, Settembre in Festa is now a tradition capable of attracting thousands of visitors, well beyond the borders of Pozzuolo Martesana, in Lombardy.
In 2026 too, Settembre in Festa will liven up Pozzuolo Martesana and the hamlet of Trecella for the entire month. The festival accompanies the festa patronale (patronal feast) linked to the Nativity of the Virgin Mary (traditionally the second Sunday in September) and offers a widespread calendar of cultural, sporting, and gastronomic initiatives.
The detailed program will be published by the Municipality and the Pro Loco in the weeks preceding the event, with appointments at Palazzo Fumagalli, in the churches, and oratories of Pozzuolo and Trecella.
