In the village of Menconico, perched in the mountainous Oltrepò Pavese in the Province of Pavia, one of the most characteristic festivals of the Lombard Apennines is renewed every September. The Sagra del Tartufo Nero e del Formaggio Nisso, organized by the Pro Loco of Menconico (local tourism board), celebrates two products that tell the identity of this border territory between Lombardy, Piedmont, and Emilia.

Two local excellences

The stars of the festival are:

• the black truffle of Oltrepò Pavese, harvested in the woods of the Pavia Apennines
• the Nisso cheese, a typical local product known as the "jumping" cheese, a rare dairy product linked to this mountain corner

The sagra, held at the Centro Polifunzionale (Multipurpose Centre) in Menconico, offers a rich programme that blends food and wine, nature, and entertainment:
