In Termoli (Province of Campobasso), the Sagra del Pesce is much more than a food festival: it's the collective ritual that closes the summer season. It takes place at the Porto Turistico (Tourist Port) square and smells of the sea and fried fish, with Adriatic fish cooked by volunteers and served to thousands of people over two evenings.
Fried 'paranza' fish and maritime tradition
The heart of the festival is the 'paranza' fish fry — red mullet, squid, hake — a symbol of Termoli's seafood cuisine. Alongside the fried fish, traditional dishes like spaghetti with cuttlefish sauce and 'sciscillo' fish balls are offered, in a menu that tells the story of a fishing town's identity.
Music, DJ sets, and fireworks over the sea
The evenings are enlivened by live music, 'pizzica' folk music, and DJ sets, culminating in the grand finale with fireworks over the Porto Turistico, illuminating the sea and bidding farewell to summer. The event is organized by the Municipality of Termoli with local associations, in a collaboration that has kept one of the town's most beloved traditions alive for decades.

The Sagra del Pesce returns to the Piazzale del Porto Turistico in Termoli on August 23 and 24, 2026, organized by the Municipality with local associations. It opens on Friday, August 23, with the 'Presagra' starting at 6:00 PM and a tasting menu, accompanied by a DJ set by Alex Latino. Saturday, August 24, is the day of the main festival, featuring fried 'paranza' fish, live music, 'pizzica' dancing, and a DJ set, ending with midnight fireworks over the Porto Turistico.
