The Pratensi Celebrations and the queen of the table: the quail
When talking about tradition in the province of Pordenone, the Sagra dea Quaia is almost an obligatory reference. With the 168th edition arriving in 2026, the Festeggiamenti Pratensi boast over a century and a half of uninterrupted history and confirm themselves as one of the most deeply rooted and popular summer events in all of Friuli Venezia Giulia. Organized by the Pro Loco Santa Lucia APS, the festival enlivens the center of Prata di Pordenone for about two weeks in July.
The name says it all: here the queen of the table is the quail (in the local dialect, quaia). The festival's cuisine offers it in all its variations, according to recipes passed down by local families: roasted quail, stewed quail, risottos with quail, accompanied by local wines. It is a hearty, generous cuisine that tells the story of the peasant civilization of this corner of the Friulian plain between the Livenza and Meduna rivers.
A rich entertainment program revolves around the food stands, designed to include everyone: live concerts, DJ sets, dancing evenings, entertainment for children, and sports initiatives like the color run that has brightened up the evenings for a few years. The formula works because it brings together young people looking for a party and families who want to dine together, in a true village festival atmosphere.
The strength of the Sagra dea Quaia lies in its being a collective effort: dozens of volunteers from the Pro Loco, supported by the Municipality of Prata di Pordenone, run the kitchens, stands, and stage for two weeks straight. The result is an event that every summer attracts visitors from all over the province of Pordenone and beyond, faithful to a tradition that has lasted for over one hundred and sixty years.
For 2026, the Sagra dea Quaia celebrates its 168th edition, confirming itself as one of the longest-running festivals in the region. The event takes place from July 10th to 21st, 2026 in Prata di Pordenone, with the usual formula alternating typical quail-based cuisine, food and wine stands, and a busy evening schedule of musical performances.
The detailed program for the 168th edition will be announced in the coming weeks by Pro Loco Santa Lucia APS. Based on previous editions, the festival includes the opening of food stands every evening with quail-based dishes, alternating live concerts, DJ sets, and dancing evenings, as well as side events like the color run and family entertainment. It is advisable to consult the Pro Loco's website and Facebook page for the complete calendar.
