The patron saint's festival in Canale d'Agordo

The Sagra de San Doane — in the Agordino dialect, the festival of San Giovanni Battista — is the patronal festival of Canale d'Agordo, a Dolomite municipality in the province of Belluno, known worldwide for being the birthplace of Pope John Paul I, Albino Luciani. It is celebrated on June 24th, the patron saint's day, with one of the oldest market fairs in the Agordino region.

The market fair and the festival

On San Giovanni's day, from the early hours, the stalls of the traditional market fill and liven up the streets of this small village rich in history and culture, nestled among the Dolomites. The festival, organized by the Pro Loco Canale d'Agordo together with the Polisportiva and with the contribution of the Municipality and tourist associations, offers a weekend of entertainment, shows, typical dishes, and a funfair set up in Piazza Salvatore Serafini.

Between devotion, market, and conviviality, the Sagra de San Doane intertwines the religious dimension of the patronal festival with the life of the Agordino community. It is an opportunity to discover Canale d'Agordo and the Val del Biois, amidst mountain traditions, typical flavors, and the characteristic hospitality of the Dolomites.
