Every year, around Ferragosto (August 15th), the Cerretana hamlet in the Municipality of Montefortino, in the Province of Fermo, transforms into a kingdom of handmade pasta. The Sagra de li Strozzapreti alla Norcina is one of the most cherished gastronomic festivals in this corner of the Sibillini Mountains, drawing residents, holidaymakers, and curious visitors seeking the authentic flavours of the Marche tradition each summer.
The signature dish of the event is strozzapreti, a simple pasta rolled and shaped by hand according to ancient peasant tradition. They are served in their most famous version, alla norcina, with a creamy sauce made from cream, sausage, and black pepper, but also in various local variations that change nightly. Alongside the pasta, the food stalls offer:
The sagra is not just about good food: each evening is enlivened by folk groups, popular dances, games, and entertainment designed for children too. It's an opportunity to experience the atmosphere of a true village festival, where cuisine intertwines with socialising and the sense of community that characterises the villages of the Marche Apennines.
Montefortino is one of the municipalities guarding the entrance to the heart of the Sibillini Mountains National Park, straddling the Marche and Umbria regions. The Cerretana hamlet, nestled in the green hills of Fermo, offers the ideal setting for a summer evening outdoors, surrounded by nature, gastronomy, and hospitality. The event is organised by the association Cerretana E' VITA, which has kept this Ferragosto tradition alive for over twenty years.
The 23rd edition of the Sagra de li Strozzapreti alla Norcina is scheduled, according to industry portals, from August 12 to 15, 2026, in the Cerretana hamlet of Montefortino (FM). As per tradition, the four evenings will revolve around handmade strozzapreti dressed alla norcina, alongside grilled meats, cured meats, cheeses, and homemade desserts, all accompanied by local wines.
The detailed program for the evenings, including musical groups and timings, is usually published by the association Cerretana E' VITA in the weeks preceding the event on their Facebook page and website cerretana.it. The 2026 dates are currently indicated by specialised portals with the wording "date to be confirmed": it is advisable to verify with the organisers before planning your visit.
The detailed program for the 23rd edition, featuring musical groups, folk dances, games, and entertainment for children, will be announced by the Cerretana E' VITA association in the weeks leading up to the event. The established format includes the opening of food stalls each evening with strozzapreti alla norcina and local specialties, followed by live musical entertainment.
The sagra is held in the Cerretana hamlet, at Villa Cerretana, in the Municipality of Montefortino (FM), Postal Code 63858, within the Sibillini Mountains National Park.
By car, Montefortino can be reached from the SS78 Picena road, continuing towards the mountain hamlets. The nearest train stations are Amandola or Porto San Giorgio-Fermo, from which you can continue by car. It is advisable to travel by car given the hilly nature of the territory.
The event traditionally takes place around Ferragosto, over four evenings. For detailed program and times, please consult the Facebook page Cerretana E' VITA or contact the organisers.
