The Sagra de la Madona de la Neif is the main summer festival of La Valle Agordina, a municipality in the Agordino area, province of Belluno. It takes place on the first weekend of August and revolves around the feast of the Madonna della Neve (Our Lady of the Snows), celebrated on August 5th: an event that the Pro Loco La Valle Agordina has been organizing, together with the municipal administration, for over fifty years.
Between devotion and popular celebration
The religious dimension is central: the festival opens on Friday evening with the traditional solemn chanting of Vespers in honour of the Madonna and culminates on Saturday morning with the solemn Holy Mass. Alongside, however, is the village festival: the summer market with dozens of craft stalls, concerts, dancing evenings, the historic couples' race, and Sunday morning's popular games.
Flavours of the mountains
The food stand offers specialties of the Dolomite tradition: grilled meats, deer ragù, spit-roasted meats, accompanied by beer and cocktails. Often, a photographic exhibition telling the history of the village provides the backdrop. For those visiting the Belluno Dolomites in summer, it is an opportunity to experience an authentic mountain sagra (local festival), where faith and conviviality merge into a single community celebration.
