Italy's longest food and wine trail in the historic center of Castellaneta
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Sagra da Far'nedd and Flavors of Puglia Festival - City of Rodolfo Valentino is the most anticipated summer event in Castellaneta, a town in the province of Taranto famous for being the birthplace of silent film legend Rudolph Valentino. Hailed by the press and organizers as one of Italy's largest food festivals, the event transforms the entire historic center into a long gastronomic trail that winds for about two kilometers through the alleys, arches, stairways, and squares of the ancient village.
The absolute star is far'nedd, a chickpea porridge rooted in the Apulian peasant world. Humble and simple in its origins, it is reinterpreted by local merchants and restaurateurs in a thousand variations: in focaccia, on friselle, and even as ice cream. Around it, a true map of Apulian taste unfolds, with over ten specialties served along the route: durum wheat bread, mozzarella and bocconcini, capocollo and cured meats, cavatelli, focaccia, sausage sandwiches, watermelon, pastries, and artisanal gelato, all accompanied by local wines and Apulian amaro.
The trail is not just about food: along the way, you will encounter numerous musical stages with live bands and groups, street artists, and local markets that bring every corner of the village to life until late at night. The charm of the illuminated historic center, with its white houses and medieval alleys overlooking the ravine, makes this gastronomic walk an immersive experience in the folk traditions of Puglia.
The festival is organized by the UNI.COM.ART. association (Union of Merchants, Artisans, and Artists) with the support of the Rodolfo Valentino Foundation and the patronage of the Municipality of Castellaneta and the Puglia Region. Admission to the trail is free: tastings can be purchased individually at the various stands, while tickets for the full food and wine experience can be booked on the official website.
The Sagra da Far'nedd takes place every year in August in the historic center of Castellaneta. The official dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced by the organizers: we recommend checking the official website and the event's social media channels to find out the date and program as soon as they are confirmed.
