The traditional festival at the Oratory of Sant'Antonio in Serravalle Sesia
The Sagra al Colle is one of the most cherished events for the community of Serravalle Sesia, a town in the province of Vercelli located in Valsesia, at the foot of the Piedmont mountains. Reaching its 33rd edition in 2026, the festival takes place at the Oratory of Sant'Antonio al Colle, a small church set in a panoramic position on the hill overlooking the town and the wide Sesia river valley.
The festival stems from the deep bond the inhabitants of Serravalle Sesia share with this place of worship and local religious tradition. The heart of the event is the Holy Mass, celebrated at the oratory and accompanied by the parish choir: a moment of reflection, often enriched by traditional Alpine songs such as "Signore delle cime." The service is followed by a traditional merenda (afternoon snack), known as "marenda cenoira" in the local dialect, offered by the Pro Loco to all participantsโa convivial occasion that brings together families, the elderly, and the youth of the village.
The Oratory of Sant'Antonio is a small jewel of popular devotion, with historical records dating back to the 17th century. Local scholars have reconstructed its history through the priors' account books, spanning from 1628 to the 20th century. Climbing the hill on the day of the festival means rediscovering a quiet and evocative corner of the region, where the view stretches across the hills and the Alps of Valsesia.
The Sagra al Colle is organized by the Pro Loco of Serravalle Sesia in collaboration with the Parish and with the support of the Municipality of Serravalle Sesia. Although it is an intimate gathering, it represents a strong identity event for the Valsesian village and for the many who, even from afar, return every year to meet on the hill. It is an authentic celebration, far from mass tourism, that tells the story of the rural and devotional soul of this part of Piedmont.
The 33rd edition is scheduled for Sunday, July 19, 2026, starting at 3:00 PM. Admission is free for everyone.
