A week of games between the neighborhoods of Ruffano
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Every summer, Ruffano, a small town in lower Salento in the Province of Lecce, transforms into a large open-air competition field. The Ruffanìadi – Neighborhood Festival is the most anticipated event of the year: a week during which the town's historic districts challenge each other with the playful spirit of a small community Olympic tournament. It is not just a competition, but a true collective celebration that fills the squares with color, music, and excitement.
The program alternates different events each evening, designed for all ages: relay races, treasure hunts, traditional Salento games, and obstacle courses turn every evening into a great team spectacle. Alongside the competitions, there are neighborhood parades with banners and emblems, street band performances, and festive moments that involve both young and old. What matters, more than the score, is the enthusiasm, collaboration, and the desire to be together.
The town's neighborhoods compete for victory, each with its own emblem, color, banner, and a team that brings together players from 6 to over 60 years old. In the most recent edition, eight districts competed: Caleddu, Matine, Vatardu, San Nicola–Santa Fumìa–Magnune, Puzzu Nou, Termete, Chiazza, and Campu Sportivo–Salite. It is precisely this intergenerational blend that makes the Ruffanìadi a ritual of identity for the entire community.
The most anticipated moment is the grand finale in Piazza Libertà, which closes the week of competitions and proclaims the winning neighborhood. The heart of the evening is the spectacular grease pole competition, made even more thrilling by the presence of athletes from the Acrobati della Cuccagna Italia association, who climb the greased pole in a crescendo of adrenaline and applause.
The Ruffanìadi are promoted by the Oratorio San Francesco of Ruffano, with the support of the Municipality of Ruffano, and have their roots in an event originally called Rioni in Gioco. Over the years, they have become one of the symbolic summer events in this corner of Puglia, capable of attracting families, former residents, and curious visitors from all over Salento. The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been officially announced: normally, the competitions enliven the town in summer, with the grand finale in the central squares.
