The travelling Carnival of the Piana Rotaliana in Roverè della Luna
The Rotaliana Königsberg Carnival is a festive event that involves the towns of the Piana Rotaliana Königsberg every year, a renowned wine-growing region at the gates of Trento in Trentino-Alto Adige. Coordinated by the Piana Rotaliana Königsberg Tourist Consortium together with local committees, the carnival moves from town to town throughout February, featuring parades of allegorical floats, costumed groups, and lively street parties. Roverè della Luna is one of the key towns in this widespread calendar.
In Roverè della Luna, a small town at the northern edge of the plain, the carnival is one of the most anticipated days of the year. Organised by the local Carnival Committee with the support of dozens of volunteers, the parade travels along the main street of the town centre and culminates in Piazza Unità d'Italia. Meticulously crafted floats and costumed walking groups bring the afternoon to life, while the local band leads the parade in accordance with a long-standing tradition.
The heart of the festival is the conviviality of the squares. The pasta with ragù, prepared and served by the Alpini Group, is a classic feature of the event, accompanied by traditional Trentino carnival sweets like crostoli. The afternoon continues with the awarding of prizes for the best floats and costumed groups, entertainment for children with face painting, and, to conclude, a party with DJs and live music.
The Roverè della Luna carnival is part of a busy calendar that also includes San Michele all'Adige, Lavis, Nave San Rocco, Mezzocorona, Zambana, and Mezzolombardo. Each town hosts its own day, but all share the same spirit: community participation, the hard work of committees and volunteers, and the desire to gather in the square. For families and those wishing to discover the popular traditions of Trentino, it is an authentic and free occasion.
On Saturday, February 14, 2026, Roverè della Luna celebrated its carnival day as part of the Rotaliana Königsberg Carnival calendar, which took place from February 7 to 17 in the various towns of the Piana. The parade of allegorical floats and costumed walking groups began at 2:00 PM along the town's main street.
The day's programme included pasta with ragù prepared by the Alpini Group in Piazza Unità d'Italia, the awarding of prizes for the best floats and costumed groups in the afternoon, entertainment for children, and, in the evening, a party with DJ sets and live music. Admission was free.
Roverè della Luna is located at the northern end of the Piana Rotaliana, in the province of Trento, about 25 km from Trento and near the border with South Tyrol. By car, it can be reached via the A22 Brenner motorway (San Michele all'Adige-Mezzocorona exit) and the SS12 state road. By train, the most convenient station is Mezzocorona on the Trento-Bolzano line, with onward travel by bus.
Admission to the event is free. Throughout the day, food stalls are available in the square serving pasta with ragù and traditional sweets. In case of bad weather, the parade may be postponed: it is recommended to check for updates on the Tourist Consortium website.
