About Romantic Night

On the night of the summer solstice, the medieval village of Savoca, in the province of Messina, joins the Romantic Night in the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy. Amidst illuminated alleyways, panoramic terraces, and historic monuments made famous by The Godfather, the evening weaves together guided tours, live music in Piazza Fossia, and themed menus in local restaurants. An intimate and evocative event that celebrates love in all its forms, culminating in a midnight kiss that symbolically unites all the participating Italian squares.

A night of love in Savoca

Every year, around the summer solstice, the small village of Savoca, perched on the hills of the province of Messina in Sicily, takes part in the Romantic Night in the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy, a national event promoted by the I Borghi piรน belli d'Italia association. On that evening, over 230 small towns across Italy simultaneously open their squares, alleyways, and historic palaces to celebrate love in all its forms, in an atmosphere filled with soft lighting, music, and nocturnal charm.

Savoca, the village of The Godfather

Included in the circuit of the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy, Savoca is one of the iconic locations of cinematic Sicily: its narrow streets and the famous Bar Vitelli were chosen by Francis Ford Coppola as a set for The Godfather. This very medieval setting, composed of churches, panoramic terraces overlooking the Ionian Sea, and timeless vistas, serves as a natural stage for the Romantic Night, transforming a simple evening stroll into an intimate and moving experience.

The evening program

The heart of the event is the Love Concert held in Piazza Fossia, where live music accompanies the audience under the starry sky. The evening is enriched by guided tours of the historic center and the opening of monumental sites, organized in collaboration with the Santa Maria Assunta Parish and the Pro Loco Savoca.

  • Guided tours through the medieval alleys and monuments of the village
  • Evening acoustic concert in Piazza Fossia
  • Themed menus dedicated to the evening in local restaurants and businesses
  • The traditional midnight kiss that symbolically unites all the Italian villages

Flavors and tradition

Local businesses offer special menus for the occasion, designed to tell the story of love through the authentic flavors of the Messina region. It is the ideal opportunity to discover local cuisine and typical Sicilian products in an intimate and welcoming setting.

A widespread event by the Municipality of Savoca

The event is promoted by the Municipality of Savoca together with the Pro Loco, the parish, and local associations, as part of the national circuit of the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy. Participation is free and open to residents and visitors, with the goal of enhancing the village's historical and identity-based heritage and promoting slow, quality tourism in the heart of Sicily.

Romantic Night โ€” edition 2026

On Saturday, June 20, 2026, Savoca joined the eleventh edition of the Romantic Night in the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy, dedicated to the theme "Love for Memories." Over 230 Italian villages celebrated love together on the night closest to the summer solstice, with the Messina village taking center stage with guided tours, music in Piazza Fossia, and themed menus.

The 2026 edition of the Romantic Night took place on Saturday, June 20, 2026, with a national theme dedicated to "Love for Memories", an invitation to rediscover roots, traditions, and memories capable of uniting different generations. Savoca, confirmed as a participating village in the I Borghi piรน belli d'Italia circuit, opened its alleys and historic center monuments to visitors.

The evening followed the village's usual format: guided tours among churches and panoramic terraces, the Love Concert in Piazza Fossia, and themed menus offered by local businesses, culminating in the traditional midnight kiss that symbolically united all the participating Italian squares.
