A night of love, music, and lights in the village of the south-east Bari area
In the heart of the south-east Bari area, in the province of Bari, the town of Sammichele di Bari participates every year in the Romantic Night in the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy, a national event promoted by the "I Borghi piรน Belli d'Italia" association. At the end of June, for one single evening, participating villages across the peninsula light up simultaneously with candles and soft lighting, turning into one large stage dedicated to love. For Sammichele, it is a highly anticipated event that the Apulian village has been hosting for several years with growing enthusiasm.
For the occasion, the historic center of Sammichele transforms into the "Village of Lovers": the famous Castello Caracciolo, its squares, and alleys are dressed in lights and romantic atmospheres. Along the streets, the "Way of Love" takes shape, alongside a space for dedications organized by local associations, art exhibitions, and themed installations, while the lighting of the village symbolically marks the start of the most sentimental evening of the summer. The charm of this small town, also known for its farming traditions and the famous Zampina Festival, is revealed in a unique and suggestive way.
The program is rich and spread across multiple locations in the village. The courtyard of the Castello Caracciolo hosts ensemble music concerts, while Piazza Vittorio Veneto stages dance performances and musicals dedicated to great love stories, such as "Romeo and Juliet." There is also the charm of Argentine tango, with performances animating the streets of the center until late at night, accompanied by musical and artistic acts. The evening culminates with the traditional midnight toast, the highlight of the national initiative, shared by all participating villages.
The Romantic Night is also an opportunity to discover local flavors: the village's restaurants and bars offer romantic candlelight menus, featuring the exclusive "Pensiero d'Amore" (Love Thought) dessert, created specifically for the event and served in participating venues as a tribute to lovers. Tastings, workshops for children, and guided tours of the Castle complete an experience designed for couples, families, and visitors of all ages.
Organized by the Municipality of Sammichele di Bari with the collaboration of the Pro Loco and local associations, the Romantic Night highlights one of the most authentic historic centers in Puglia. It is the ideal occasion to experience the village in a magical atmosphere, amidst music, lights, and romance, in the spirit of a tradition that every year unites Italy's villages in one great night dedicated to love.
For the 2026 edition, scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026, from 6:00 PM until midnight, Sammichele di Bari participated for the fourth consecutive year in the Romantic Night in the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy, now in its eleventh national edition, themed "Love for Memories".
From 6:00 PM, in the historic center and Largo Sant'Antonio, art exhibitions, the "Way of Love," and a space for dedications organized by local associations began. At the Castello Caracciolo, guided tours and workshops for children followed, while at 8:30 PM the castle courtyard hosted an ensemble music concert by the Bari Junior Band. At 9:00 PM, the lights of the "Village of Lovers" were turned on, and in Piazza Vittorio Veneto, the musical "Romeo and Juliet" by the Bakhita Dance School took place. Late in the evening, on Via Principessa Mafalda, there was an Argentine tango performance, followed at 11:30 PM by the show "Love in the Air Tonight." The night concluded with the midnight toast in Piazza Vittorio Veneto.
Sammichele di Bari is located in the south-east Bari area, in the province of Bari. By car, it can be reached via the SS100 Bari-Taranto road, taking the exit towards Casamassima and Sammichele. The village is served by the Ferrovie del Sud Est railway line (Bari-Putignano). The nearest airports are Bari-Palese and Brindisi-Casale.
Events take place in the historic center, with hubs at the Castello Caracciolo, Piazza Vittorio Veneto, and along the village streets.
