The most romantic night of the year within the walls of the Rocca Sforzesca
Every year, on the evening closest to the summer solstice, the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy jointly celebrate the Romantic Night, a widespread event that transforms dozens of small historic centers into timeless settings. In Bagnara di Romagna, a municipality in the Bassa Romagna area of Ravenna province and part of the prestigious circuit of the most beautiful villages, the romantic night is one of the most anticipated events of the summer: soft lights, candles, and hushed atmospheres envelop the historic center enclosed by its medieval walls, a rare occurrence in the Emilia-Romagna plain.
The heart of the evening is the relaxing aperitifs in the green, with the imposing Rocca Sforzesca serving as a natural backdrop. The 16th-century fortress, linked to the name of Caterina Sforza and now home to the Castle Museum, opens its halls for romantic-themed guided tours that lead visitors through the Renaissance courtyard, the original wooden ceilings, and the sandstone spiral staircase. Next to the Rocca, the Pietro Mascagni Museum also participates with special evening openings.
Between one square and another, live music resonates, with scattered performances animating alleys and courtyards without fixed stages, to maintain the popular and intimate atmosphere typical of the village. There are also moments dedicated to the whole family, such as shows and musical storytelling.
The Romantic Night is also the ideal opportunity to discover Bagnara di Romagna: the Rocca Sforzesca with its intact walls, the Church of Saints Giovanni Battista and Andrea, the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Soccorso, and the small parish museums. For those who wish to extend the evening, romantic dinners in the village's restaurants and numerous refreshment points and street food stalls complete an experience that combines art, history, Romagna gastronomy, and a dreamlike atmosphere, in the most authentic spirit of Romagna.
For the 2026 edition, the Romantic Night in the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy will be held on Saturday, June 20. Bagnara di Romagna participates in the initiative with an evening program focused on a romantic atmosphere and widespread entertainment in the historic center.
