The Modigliana stop of the green review by Ravenna Festival, in the heart of the Montebello Forest
Romagna in Fiore is the eco-sustainable and widespread music review created by Ravenna Festival, one of the most prestigious cultural institutions in Emilia-Romagna. The Modigliana stop, in the province of Forlì-Cesena, brings live music to one of the most fascinating places in the Romagna Apennines: the Montebello Forest, a nature reserve of about 320 hectares extending between 500 and 700 meters above sea level, in the Ibola stream valley.
Born in 2024 to support the Apennine territories affected by the flood, Romagna in Fiore offers afternoon concerts on weekends in May, in places of great landscape and historical value. The philosophy of the review is radical and poetic: no bulky stages, no artificial lights, and the concert venues are reached exclusively on foot or by bicycle. It is an invitation to slow down, to walk towards the music, and to rediscover the connection with nature, in a gesture of rebirth for the inland Romagna communities.
The natural stage in Modigliana is the Montebello Forest Experimental Reserve, a precious wooded area overlooking the valley. The event space is reached via a marked tourist-level trekking route, starting from the Passo del Trebbio: about 5 kilometers of walking with an altitude difference of 115 meters, immersed in the green of the Tuscan-Romagna Apennines. Arriving in the heart of the forest, where the concert is held outdoors and in an intimate setting, is an integral part of the experience.
Each edition brings a different protagonist of the Italian and international music scene to Modigliana. The audience listens to the concert sitting on the grass, in an intimate atmosphere free from technological filters. To complete the day, a refreshment point managed by the Pro Loco of Modigliana offers local products and dishes. An opportunity to combine the discovery of the Romagna Apennines, good local food, and great live music, while supporting the rebirth of these places.
On Sunday, May 3, 2026, at 4:00 PM, the Montebello Forest above Modigliana hosted the Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino, a historic group of pizzica and popular music from Salento. The Mediterranean and overwhelming sound of the Apulian group resonated through the woods of the Romagna Apennines, in a suggestive dialogue between two Southern Italys.
The event opened the first of the four weekends of Romagna in Fiore 2026, the third edition of the eco-sustainable review by Ravenna Festival, scheduled from May 1 to 24 with nine concerts. As per the event's philosophy, the concert took place without bulky stages or artificial lights, reachable only on foot or by bicycle from Passo del Trebbio.
