The inaugural stop of the Ravenna Festival's green review, at the Antica Torre di Fornione
Romagna in fiore is the eco-sustainable and widespread review created by Ravenna Festival in 2024, in the aftermath of the dramatic flood of May 2023 that severely hit Romagna and the Bolognese territory. The idea is simple and powerful: to bring great music to the places damaged by the water, transforming villages, hills, and parks into open-air stages to keep attention focused on these communities and help them flourish again. In Fontanelice, a small municipality in the Province of Bologna nestled in the Santerno valley, in Emilia-Romagna, the review finds its opening stop.
The inaugural event takes place at the Antica Torre di Fornione, a suggestive medieval structure linked to the Alidosi family that dominates the hilly landscape around Fontanelice. Here, the philosophy of the review becomes radical: the performance venue is reached on foot, along a marked path of about 6 kilometers with a 433-meter elevation gain, starting from the village cemetery. A shuttle service is available for the ascent only; the return is on foot. No large structures, no artificial lights: only the landscape of the Bolognese Apennines, the silence of nature, and music.
The entire Romagna in fiore is dedicated to sustainability: afternoon concerts to take advantage of natural light, locations reachable on foot or by bicycle, absence of large structures, and attention to the environment. The review is also deeply solidarity-driven, as it was created to support the flood-affected territories, and participatory: in Fontanelice, the local Pro Loco manages the food stands, intertwining the festival with the life of the village.
Each year, Romagna in fiore designs an itinerary of nine concerts that crosses the municipalities of Romagna and the Bolognese area, from Fontanelice to Cotignola, from Modigliana to Faenza, from Santa Sofia to Brisighella, up to Forlì, Ravenna, and Bertinoro. Fontanelice, with its Torre di Fornione and the paths of the Santerno valley, has the honor of opening the review: an opportunity to combine hiking, landscape, and great music in a single day of celebration.
The third edition of Romagna in fiore, featuring nine concerts from May 1st to May 24th, 2026, opened on Friday, May 1st, at 4:00 PM in Fontanelice, at the Antica Torre di Fornione, with one of the most original artists of the new Italian scene: Davide Ambrogio. A multi-instrumentalist from Calabria (vocals, guitar, troccole), Ambrogio reinterprets Southern oral tradition in a personal and contemporary way; on stage, he was accompanied by Walter Laureti (live electronics, synthesizers), Vincenzo Gagliani (drum), and Federico Laganà (percussion, vocals).
Opening the event, as an opening act, was saxophonist Laura Agnusdei, who explores territories between jazz, improvisation, and electroacoustic composition, joined by Edoardo Grisogani on percussion and electronics. The concert, exclusively reachable on foot along the Santerno valley path, confirmed the green and solidarity formula of the Ravenna Festival's review.
